Shuttle Questions.
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:14:46 AM »
The 6:1 ratio referenced all over the place is read as what? Fuel to Oxidizer or Oxidizer to Fuel? Based on the ET tank sizes I would guess fuel to oxidizer. Are there any hard numbers on the actual fuel and oxidizer used in each minute available? I am looking for specific numbers, and everything I find is generalized. Also are the RCS/OMS thrusters a 1:1 ratio?

Systems questions

How heavy is the ECLSS package? What are the size of the H, O, He and N internal tanks and what is the total amount carried of each? How much water is carried? Anyone know the alloy of titanium and aluminum used in the structure and there weight per linear foot??

Ar you totally confuzzled by this post yet?

Some answers:

6 to 1 is oxidizer-to-fuel ratio. At 104 percent power, each SSME consumes 933 pounds of LO2 and 155 pounds of LH2 per second.
According to SCOM page 1.3-1, the ET holds a maximum of 1,361,936 pounds of LO2 (= 143,351 gallons) and 227,641 pounds of LH2 (= 385,266 gallons). LO2 is much denser than LH2, this is why it is much heavier.
OMS engines and RCS thrusters have a 1.65 to 1 oxidizer-to-fuel ratio.

Most of the structure is made of 2024 aluminum alloy, while the pressure-tight crew compartment is made of 2219 aluminum alloy.

Sorry, I can't answer your other questions.

Here: http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/technology/sts-newsref/sts_eclss.html
is something about the ECLSS and subsystems (use links).
