Space Shuttle Mission Simulator (tm) / Re: Stuck in STS-31

Hello sir!

If Hubble solar panels deployed before you opened the payload bay doors there must be a timing issue somewhere. It usually mean you have taken to long doing a specific task.

Its easier to provide support if you submit the comms.number. It is visible at the bottom of the info window, below mission time.

So after ground control opens up the solar array for hubble, it does this without the payload doors opening?

I'm stuck at this part with the coms:
RELEASE THE HUBBLE
AFT RIGHT CHECK END DEFLECTOR TO AUTO
UNGRAPPPLE AND REALESE HUBBLE
WHEN END DEFLECTOR......

I dont know what to do next, I have it on the easiest mode where it shows what switches to press, but this time its showing nothing?

Windows compability / Re: Init DirectInput Failed
« Last post by Admin on December 09, 2022, 10:27:26 PM »
Hello Sir!

The Resolution Fix Patch can be downloaded at our download page. But its usually not necessary to install that, but we take your advice under review.

Hard to say what causes your input problem. SSM2004 usually works flawless on all new computers. The DirectInput version used in SSM2007 is 8.0 and as far as I know it is the latest. The joystick should be turned off by default, so if the sim crashes from scratch it must be the mouse, or the main DInput object that causes the problem.

A well known problem is the poor support for input devices in SSM2007, so I cant really give much help from here. There is a DXDiag program you can run from Windows search list that can confirm DInput in general is working. Next, remove all devices and check if the sim works. Also, it would be nice to know if you are using any super duper flight sim gizmos that could cause the problem.

In the good old WindowsXP you could sort devices and stuff manually in a device list to make them work, and since that was the OS SSM2007 was originally made for we never dig to deep into device configurations. You can still use the old Joystick control panel, but as far as I know the only way is to run it is from the search console using "joy.cpl". Even calibration cant be done from the main Windows input device window.

Well, many words and little help as usual. But you got a couple of things to try anyway.

Regards!

Windows compability / Init DirectInput Failed
« Last post by elmarko on December 01, 2022, 04:53:18 PM »
Hi guys,

Coming back to this game after 13-14 years or so, wow.

I have installed the resolution fix just fine (pro tip: you should put that on the main website, only 5.31 is there now and I had to find the fix on the forum after Googling!). I am now having issues with DirectInput. I get a message saying: Init DirectInput Failed and then the application fails to start.

This is a Windows 10 laptop, latest patches and updates, and there is nothing special about it. Any ideas on things I can check? Any logs anywhere I can look at?

Happy to provide any other info on request, thanks in advance.

I just saw the update from the end of September. I wanted to say thank you to the moderators for the update. It is good to hear the things are still progressing on SSMS2 and I look forward to hearing more as your work continues. I am looking forward to when the program reaches a point where it is ready for release.

Space Shuttle Mission Simulator (tm) / After Grapple for STS-8
« Last post by disasterone on October 16, 2022, 01:21:28 AM »
Made a successful grapple, and everything looks normal. Clock is running, no NO-GO flag, but the sim never moves on to the next comm, which should be Comm 1116.  I even did the time skip for "hours" of sim time, and nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

Still alive at this end. Since all work is put down on sound and communications nowadays there will be no fancy screenshot this time.
Just wanted you all to know that after listening to 5-6 GBytes of communication files you start to make faces like this  :o.

Its was hard to find communications containing a lot of words spoken by the same person. Then the quality differed a lot. Then the volume needs to be tweaked, and so on.
However, we have something we think works good enough by now. So at the moment its just a matter of building sentences word by word and add a timer to it.

There will be same voices for all missions. Otherwise things would quickly get out of hand. But there will be separate pilot commander voices.  Separate spacewalk,Docking,Landing communications. And the start now includes all kind of real OTC,PTC,LBC,LRD,ASP communications. There will be only one CAPCOM. Using all different work-shift of CAPCOMs is a bit out of the scope , for now anyway. The samples is low quality and don't takes up much memory, so you never know in the future.

The generic take of landing is almost finished and after all sounds have been added to the four missions we have, this baby will go beta and needs testing.

Could turn out to be a real christmas present  :P

If anyone is interested and haven't found it already, here is the link to  a lot of communications files concerning space:

Guess that's all for now, until we meet again, live long and prosper.

I, for one, am just glad the project is still alive. No sarcasm or ill-intent meant. As I understand it, this is a side project for you devs and for people to be continuing to work on it as time allows is great. Will certainly be a day-of-release purchase for me. Looking forward to everything you

Hello people  ;D

Sorry for not updating for a while. Since all work is being made on sounds and more realistic communications there's no fancy screen shots to show off and I didn't thought anyone would be interested to listen my ramblings so updates has been "somewhat" neglected as usual.

For the time being I can say that the new communications system works fine but takes some time to implement. But were getting there. I guess I better add something in the news section soon. (I can throw in some screen shots to, anyway. :P)

Regards!
