-when looking at a NASA photo, you move the mouse around to get a better angle

You say out loud: 10...9...8...7...6 (now you start the engine and say:) we have main engine start...3...2...1...Lift off (exactly now you start to move your vehicle)...we have lift off!
-When exactly after 8 minutes and 38 seconds you turn off the engine of your car/bus/truck and you exclamate: "Main engine cut off!" Now you wait until ET separation occurs...
-When your wife asks you something you don't understand, you ask her for the Comm number.
-When you put TPS tiles on your car and install a drag chute.
-When everytime you miss the right exit on the highway, you are grumbling something that sounds like "missed the deorbit window".
-When everytime some mishap happens to somebody else, you say: "Oh my god, what have you done? You trashed the shuttle AND the crew!"
-When you call someone on the phone, the first thing you say is: "This is Houston, do you read?"
-When you end every sentence you say on the telephone with a "Beep!"
-When you do a circle for "heading alignment", everytime before you park your car.
-When you install a docking target in your garage.

NaturalPoint ship'em out in 179$ and you can fine an online cupone that will bring it down just a bit.. 160 maybe 150. but not under 100$ (and if there is let me know.. I'll take two :))

A typical day in the life of an SSM2007 addict.

1. Wake up.
2. Have steak for breakfast.
3. Spend an hour getting changed.
4. Take the bus three miles to where you park your car.
5. Get into car, with assistance from several other people, who have made sure your car is correctly configured to go to work.
6. Spend 1 hour and 50 minutes (+ hold time) flicking switches on the dashboard.
7. Finally (as Spacewalker says), count-down from 10, switching on the engine at 6 seconds, then moving away at 0 seconds.
8. About 40 seconds after moving off, take your foot slightly off the accelerator for about 30 seconds, then floor it again.
9. After 8 minutes, release the accelerator fully, and a few seconds later, the fuel tank falls out of the car.
10. Some time afterwards, open the boot of the car and raise the aerial.
11. Program your place of work into the GPS system and slowly coast towards it.
12. Approach your place of work at speeds of no more than around 30cm/sec, and 10cm/sec for the last 50m or so.
13. Wait an hour before exiting the car and entering your place of work.
14. Go to boss' office and explain why you are 8 hours late for work.

Watching/Listening NASA tv @ work all day (like today) and from time to time explain to your coleagues what exactly is happening with all the complicated terminology after an simple question like "whats that your watching?", and ending that with an "isnt that awesome?" 2 out of 10 replied with an yes. :O

heyyyy still no ideas how to get some neat ringtones from typical radio msgs ? would be great for text msgs.

Ok, let's take rokushakubo's story a little further...
When it's time to go home, you:
1) Climb into your car through a narrow tube.
2) You sit in you seat and wait for the pressure to equalize.
3) You use the starter to move the car slowly away.
4) Once at a safe distance, you get going with a short burst from the motor.
5) Now, stick your head and upper body out of the window and inspect the underside of your car (NOTE: This can be tricky, but fortunately we're not going very fast).
6) While still moving, stow the aerial and close the trunk.
7) Coast onto the highway, at the same time turrning the car backwards (just ignore all the comm noise, like horns, curses etc).
8) At just the right moment start the engine, put the car in reverse and floor it!
9) Just before running out of fuel, turn off the engine.
10) Now turn the car around (why, just use the hand brake, silly...).
12) Then you just sit there, wondering if you have forgotten something...
13) As you get to your exit, turn up the heat fully and turn off the radio.

And could someone else take us to the HAC and home, because I'm laughing too hard. This thread is priceless!!!

Well, some more,

- When you refer to your passengers as "Mission Specialists" and your wife (or husband) as "Pilot" or "Commander", depending on whether you drive or not (or who's da boss  ;D )
- When you call home asking for the weather conditions at the estimated car "landing" time.
- When you install safety belts on your toilet.
- When you refer to a house door as "airlock" and wait a bit before entering to allow for "pressure equalization".

Hmm, strange.  What reader are you using?

I recommend Foxit, the Adobe PDF reader is far too bloated, foxit is wonderful; nice and small.

1) When approaching the roundabout, you stick 2 haridryers out the side of the car to gain air data
2) you circle the roundabout until you have slowed down enough to get into your driveway
3) you pull off into the correct street from the roundabout
4) you lower the wheels of your car to raise it up a few feet
5)you do a wheeli once you enter your home street
6) after a few seconds, you put the front of the car down
7) once you are at a safe spped, you apply the brakes and come to a stop right in front of the driveway
8) after turning off the engine and spilling all the extra fual onto the road, you exit the car and do a final walkaround
9) a group of people soon tow your car into the garage and replace the outer skin and tires
10) you explain to your wife and kids why you are 5 hours late home

Then the next day, it happens all over again

Cheaper if you use Freetrack http://www.free-track.net/. But you've got to build your headset and have a decent Webcam (MicroSoft VX-100 is good and cheap). My setup cost less than $40 :)

Okay, someone has got it in for me. Another EVA situation:

In work today, I had to get from the hatch in the attic across the loft beams (east wing of the building, I've nicknamed it the P1 Truss), to add several CAT5e cables along the conduit. Install a discrete security video cam and repair a light fitting. To further familiar situation I left a screwdriver up there.

Yes, I confirm!! I have visited this space center several times. I think it's the only 1:1 replica visible in Europe.
There is also a 1:1 replica of the European laboratory Columbus if I can remember.

There is a replica of something that resembles an ISS module (and we call it Columbus), but it's not to true scale, it's a little smaller, but still big enough to walk through:)

Well, that's really a hypothetical question as IMAX is an analog format, and SSM outputs digital signals per definition.

But, let's suppose we could compare them...
Then here's what you'd need:

The only QXGA (highest res currently available) projectors I could find, were professional ones, like this:

This was something funny that happened last friday night, and definitely fits the bill here. My uncle offered to buy me a joystick for FSX and SSM2007. So I told him about the Saitek X52. He said no problem. To help with decreasing the cost, I went to eBay to try and win an auction. 2 auctions went by too expensive, until I tried searching for different variants of the name. So I found this seller who mistyped Saitek X52 and wrote Saitek X53, but he got the "ps28" right, which I think is the product number... Still, I decided to nail a bid at the last 5 seconds, even if no one had bid on it.

I set my laptop on the kitchen table (where I have the best 3G signal, I wont have hi-speed for another week), and set a $75 bid, but I left the cursor on the "Confirm Bid" button. 5 minutes, 5 seconds before the auction ended, I set the microwave on a 5-minute timer countdown. My brother joined me later on. You can imagine what happened.

"T-50 seconds and counting... shuttle Saitek now on internal power..."
"T-31... GLS is Go for Auto Sequence Start. The cursor now has control of the countdown." ...and I set my hand on the mouse button. And my bro was grinning.
"25..." "...15..." ...and my bro does the loud whistling pretty much like the sound suppression system does when blasting all 350,000 gallons of water into the SRB/SSMEs trenches.

"T minus 10..." "GLS is go for main engine start" "..7...6..." My brother does the whooshing and burning rocket sound... "...and we have main engine start....3.....2.....1...." The microwave beeps, and I press the button, auction confirmed, and a 5 second refresh later told me that this launch wasn't scrubbed. I won the auction at $63.
"....aaannnd LIFTOFF OF SPACE SHUTTLE SAITEK! Delivering new freedom of control to all aircraft and spacecraft piloted from this computer!"

....random. I guess depositing the money at the bank and paying via Paypal was the OMS-2 burn to put this baby into a stable orbit since not paying for it would have me flagged as a non-buying bidder (premature reentry!). :P

When you install a complex 50-button control panel in your kitchen to operate every single little feature of your refrigerator (Including multiple contingency modes)...

When the scariest nightmare you've ever had involved scanning for a button on the Space Shuttle control panels... and never finding it...

You can synchronize it. Just follow what's going on on NASATV and follow their cue - speeds, distances etc. You need plenty of time and patience - I've done it once :)

Yes, I *Could* synchronize it, but I was too lazy to, and doing so would detract from the excitement of watching still photos update every minute or so from the orbital docking system's camera =P

You know you're addicted when you stay up till 4:30am watching NASA TV, then go to bed right after watching the crew open the hatches/play peeka-boo with the on-board cameras (While fighting off the urge to finish the SSM mission you started a few hours before-hand). Time for bed <_<

When you never go anywhere without your Nomex royal blue flight jacket (it was awkward running into Brian Duffy at Space Center Houston, and finding myself wearing the same jacket as him).

When the main writing utensils you use are a Skilcraft .9mm pencil and a Fisher CH4 pen, and you even own some Skilcraft .9mm pencils and Fisher CH4 pens which have flown on the space shuttle.

When you attach a velcro hook to the back of your timer, write MS1 on it, and attach it to your monitor (which is already covered in squares of velcro loops)
